About Lake Garda

The beauty of the Italian Lakes is legendary. Protected by a backdrop of snow-capped mountains the lakes are blessed with a warm Mediterranean climate where semi-tropical flowers and trees flourish. Artists and writers alike are captivated by the picturesque little towns reflected in the clear blue waters of the lakes. Lake Garda is the largest of the six lakes and in places it is 12 miles wide. Its scenery changes from gentle and Mediterranean on its southern shores, to more dramatic and mountainous in the north; the most enjoyable way to sightsee is by taking one of the many little ferry boats which criss-cross the lake. Take a drive to the beautiful city of Verona, where the Roman amphitheatre is the venue for the opera season (July-August) or enjoy the splendours of Venice which is approximately two hours' drive away.

Rio Selva is situated on a hillside just 300m from the village of Montinelle which is perched on top of a hill and has a small selection of shops, bars and restaurants. You can take ferries from the attractive small marina at Porto Dusano (approximately 1km) where there is also a pebble beach, restaurant and bar. From here, during the summer months you can catch a passenger ferry to various lakeside towns.  There are several walking paths nearby leading to the most stunning lake and countryside views.  The lake can be seen from the top of the site: and, as you wander down past the chalets through the spacious, informal lawned areas towards the large swimming pool, you will see the wooded area beyond, which hides Rio Selva - little more than a stream during the summer months.

The charming Italian family who own the cottages and live on-site very much enjoy welcoming HPB clients to their pretty, simply furnished accommodation. All double or twin bedrooms have ceiling fans. Twelve of the 18 semi-detached cottages are reserved for Italian families who holiday here every year. April and October are wonderful months to visit Lake Garda as they tend to be quieter but please bear in mind that some facilities may be reduced or closed.

Rio Selva Cottages

Sleeps 3 - 2 bedrooms - 1 bathroom

 

Each cottage has a pretty sitting/dining room with comfortable seating. Portable television (not satellite) with video. Small well equipped galley kitchen with gas hob, fridge and oven. At the rear, accessed through the kitchen, there is an outdoor covered area with fridge/freezer and barbecue. One small double bedroom and one small, narrow single bedroom share a bathroom. Shaded terrace area at the front of cottage with table and chairs leading to small lawned area. BBQ.

Rio Selva Cottages

 

Sleeps 4 - 2 bedroom - 1 shower room + cloakroom or
Sleeps 6 - 3 bedrooms - 2 shower rooms

Similar to the cottage for 3 people but the rooms are slightly larger and the kitchen is equipped with full cooker and fridge/freezer. The cottage with two bedrooms has a double bedroom with en-suite cloakroom (w.c. and basin) and a twin bedroom plus shower room. The three bedroom cottage has one double and two twins and limited, but comfortable seating. BBQ.
